PROMOTER GT Taylor and his team can take a bow for a well-produced and executed staging of the GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza in St Elizabeth on Saturday Night.
The event, which marked the 11th staging of the popular Christmas Day stage show, was easily one of the top entertainment events of the holiday season.
Held at Independence Park in Black River, the show attracted thousands of party patrons and Reggae/dancehall's hottest names -- I-Octane, Beenie Man, Gyptian, Bounty Killer, Lady Saw and more.
The early segment saw well-delivered performances from Tiana, Warrior King, Mickelous, Hero and Nesbeth.
With his flag-bearing Rastas in tow, Fantan Mojah proved once again to be a crowd-pleaser. The cultural artiste had his fans in a sing-a-long to his songs Only Jah Love, Stronger and Hungry. Then it was time to 'bun a fire' and what better person to create the inferno with than Lutan Fyah. Both artistes were in a no-nonsense mood as they set fire to Babylon -- jealousy, covetousness and a government that has failed to bring a better way of life for Jamaicans.
The Living Fire Chuck Fenda was on a serious campaign to make a significant mark for himself at the Jagra-sponsored event and did just that. The artiste churned out hits including I Swear, Coming Over Tonight, Real Man, Life Ruff Out Deh and Gash Dem. During the final minutes of his performance Fenda, now referred to as the Living Fire, seemed to go into an emotional trance as he song the lyrics to his song Mama with tears flowing down his face.
Soul Train Award winner Gyptian could do no wrong especially for the ladies at Independence Park early Sunday morning. Backed by the Ruff Cut Band, the singer delivered Mama, Serious Times, Beautiful Lady and of course Hold You.
Although most of the night's performers had the crowd in a frenzy there were others who failed to leave their imprint. Even with members from her group '21 Bad Gals' present, former Gaza Princess Lisa Hyper was no match for the Christmas Extravaganza patrons. Obviously shy to share centerstage with their mentor, the 'bad gals' hovered to the side of the stage while Hyper performed to numerous boos from the crowd.
Flex suffered the same fate as Hyper even though he tried without success to deliver a tight set.
The early hours of Boxing Day came with a 'wicked' performance from Dancehall 'muma' Lady Saw. The first lady of Dancehall powered by the passion of her fans delivered extremely well spitting the lyrics of her catalogue which included I've Got Your Man, Chat To Mi Back, Backshot and Stab Up Di Meat. Her performance in St Bess was clearly an indicator of what was to come the following day at Sting.
The final two hours belonged to Khago, I-Octane, Beenie Man, Baby Cham and Bounty Killer.
As anticipated, all five artistes got several 'forwards' as they kept their fans entertained some saluting not only by screams but with the use of firecrackers and spray can flame throwers.
It was approximately 6:15 am when the police signalled an end to another GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza. Part Proceeds from the event will go towards various projects in the parish.
